So, I've been thinking and plotting (not a good combination) and I was thinking, what if we had another blog (which would be insane, so don't be afraid to say no) for worldbuilding. In other words, we'd be able to get those random histories of worlds and wars and magicks, and be at peace. You could make magic systems, governments, etc. Because it's insane, I don't care if you guys say no. I'd understand....
I was thinking TWICE in the first sentence! This must be a good idea...!
ReplyDeleteYou are crazy for wanting another blog. My dashboard is getting long. But, if that's what floats your boat, I'm not against it. I'd just like to say that although building a world that is developed enough to seem real, or at least believable is very important, I still worry about some authors (not meaning any of you by far) get so caught up in their own fantastical world that their characters and plot falls by the wayside. I believe that it is characters that truly make a story. But don't read this as negativity. I'd use a world-building blog.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a lot more involving of a blog. Perhaps if we made our posts short enough and broadened it to where basically anything setting-related ended up there. The problem is a lot of our stories, I've noticed, happen in the Present Day format or at the very least a Twenty Minutes into the Future format. I agree with Michaela in that it usually isn't the setting that makes the story, but this does give me another idea: a world you put up on the site could be public domain in the group and used in any of our stories. We could even incorporate them into prompts (if we're still doing those during school.) So if you wanted to make one, I say full steam ahead. Oh, that and my computer time will likely be severely limited during the school year, likely just to Fridays and Saturdays, so i won't be able to blog as much as I'd want to anyways. But if you set up a blog like this, I'd use it whenever it a place popped into my head.
ReplyDeleteThe Place to Be?
Settling Down?
The Set Up?
Oh, the Places You'll Go?
I like the last one, mostly because I was raised on the book. I've also got some ideas:
ReplyDeleteBehind the Scenes
Rendezvous
Planet X
The Parallel Blogiverse
ATW: All Terrain Writing
Location, Location, Location
A World of Difference
The Unsetting
That One Place
Nah, I think yours are better.
I'm sorry about this, but I used my own idea of a title (Seven Leagues Under the Brain). If you don't like it, just say so, and I'll probably change it. The URL--I had a hard time finding one that was available out of your ideas--so I did www.locationtimesthree.blogspot.com.
